Headspace, the provider of the world’s most accessible, comprehensive mental health system, today announced the launch of its integrated app experience for employers and health plan partners, as well as the expansion of its employee assistance program (EAP) replacement solution.

Beginning this month, enterprise customers who’ve purchased Headspace’s fully integrated offering will empower their employees with a single destination for end-to-end mental health support, including evidence-based mental health and mindfulness content, 1:1 mental health coaching, therapy and psychiatry, as well as work-life services. Headspace has also begun to roll out this offering to select health plan and navigation partners, including Accolade, Quantum Health and Virgin Pulse. Over the coming quarters, this comprehensive system of mental healthcare will be made available to Headspace consumer members as well.

“Employee mental health is one of the biggest challenges impacting organizations today, and providing support is a top issue for companies to address. Yet, ease of access and consistency have been barriers to employees. As advocates for simplifying the healthcare experience, we commend Headspace for applying the same philosophy to their mental health offerings,” said Jeffrey Jacques, MD, chief medical officer for Virgin Pulse. “Headspace is a valuable part of the Virgin Pulse partner ecosystem, while also being an important specialty benefit we provide our own employees. Together, we are making a positive impact on the holistic well-being of our clients, members, and staff.”

With this experience, members now have access to an evidence-based, clinically validated support system within one app to address mental health needs as they arise:

  • Improving access and engagement: Today’s healthcare system creates barriers to care and a fragmented experience. Studies have shown that fragmented care can result in adverse outcomes, including increased costs and inequalities in care. Headspace’s comprehensive offering provides real-time, 24/7 access to mental health support for every moment of need, driving five to 10 times more engagement than traditional EAPs. The experience includes on-demand, text-based mental health coaching available in under two minutes, access to therapy appointments in under 2.2 days on average, and integrated clinical assessments to measure progress and outcomes over time. The value of this experience results in higher engagement; a recent study conducted by Headspace found that members who engaged with Headspace content for eight weeks alongside their coaching and therapy sessions experienced a reduction in symptoms of depression by 44% and symptoms of anxiety by 46%.

  • Lowering healthcare costs for employers and payors: Headspace’s team-based care model ensures that members receive the right level of care at the right time, avoiding unnecessary treatment and helping them get better, faster. This model has been shown to reduce healthcare spend by over $600 per member per year and lower spend for comorbidities.

  • High-quality, clinically validated care: Headspace’s team of dedicated providers follow measurement-based care and quality assurance practices to assess member needs and personalize a care plan that’s focused on outcomes. Headspace’s proprietary Care Hub, which incorporates coaches, therapists and psychiatrists, makes collaboration and measurement-based care easier, driving better member outcomes. The hub allows members of the Care team to share data and understand the member ‘at-a-glance,’ enabling teams to efficiently deliver care, no matter where any given member may be on their care journey.

Additionally, Headspace EAP, which offers therapy sessions, critical incident support, work-life services, global services and management services, is now available globally. EAP members can utilize the newly launched Headspace Hub to view available services and identify the support they need (on their own or with support from Headspace’s team). Members can request an in-person provider, get support in finding local work-life services or help finding care for children ages six and older.

“Mental healthcare is long overdue for a solution that makes end-to-end, lifelong support a reality for all,” said Russell Glass, CEO of Headspace. “Our new, fully integrated app experience allows us to deliver on this promise for employers and employees, creating a singular destination for evidence-based mental health and mindfulness content, mental health coaching, therapy, psychiatry and work-life services – all seamlessly accessible through one app.”
