I was finding it hard to cope with my daughter’s continuing struggle with depression. Living with her and being around her was causing me a lot of fear, stress and anxiety and I knew that I wasn’t helping her or myself.
I immediately liked the Headspace app because the meditations were short to begin with and the instructions were so practical and straightforward and easy to listen to. Even after the first meditation I felt good that I could do it, and I wasn’t beating myself up because I couldn’t clear my mind.
After the Foundation Packs I went on to do the Relationship Pack and this has helped my relationship with my daughter a huge amount. Now when she is struggling, instead of getting anxious and worried about how far she may spiral down, I visualize a bright light in me growing. I then share that light with her and become calmer and more able to listen to what she might say to me.
I am now about half way through the Anxiety Pack and find that even now when I feel the fear or panic rise in me I am able to take a step back and say ‘thought’ or ‘feeling,’ ‘pleasant’ or ‘unpleasant,’ and then focus back on whatever I was doing at that moment.
I am so delighted that I found this app, each meditation is like a little mini therapy session.
