Headspacer of the Month: Jo Martin
From time to time, we introduce someone who is taking the time to get some Headspace every day. Today, we shine a light on Jo Martin.
What did you dream about last night?
It was a bit crazy, like a Tarantino movie...but here goes. I was with a group of friends and they said they had some curtain material which they were cutting up in a large department store. I had to go in at night with my head torch and it turned out there were lots of people in there and I met a famous actor. He was also interested in the curtain material but we stumbled upon an acquaintance of his who had a large, sharp piece of wood, and he thrust it into the actor who didn't seem too worried about this and we left quite jovially. You did ask...
What do you do for a living?
After training as an accountant, I helped young people set up their own businesses, then I worked for a family company in property development whilst my children were young. After selling the family company, I decided to train in an ancient and traditional manual profession and qualified as a saddler making bespoke luxury goods. This led to my collaboration and running of a craft gallery that provided a marketplace for other artists and craftspeople. I'm currently considering my next pathway.
When did you start using Headspace?
How long have you been meditating?
Since I started using Headspace.
What piece of advice would you give people sitting down to meditate for the first time?
Be kind to yourself! Make sure you give yourself a tap on the back occasionally and never beat yourself up if you fall out of the routine.
What’s the best moment of your life?
Now.
What habit do you want to change?
The habit of feeling regret or worry.
Whats your favorite sound?
It's the time of year when the swifts return to the river next to our home after wintering in Africa. Their return is signalled by the most beautiful sounds as they circle and scream with joy in the sky at finally being home after their very long trip. It is the sound of home and summer’s arrival.
What three things would you take with you to a desert island?
My glasses, some cacao seeds and a hammock.
Who do you dedicate your practice to?
My partner.
