Hi everyone and season's greetings. Welcome back to "Plant Wisdom". As you can see, I'm getting some of my gifts prepped and ready for loved ones. One of my favorite gifts to give, just about any time of year, are plants. They're something that can be enjoyed for years, especially when cared for properly. Let's take some time today to talk through which plants make the best gifts and how to gift them. What I love about giving plants as gifts is that every plant is unique and even after the holiday season passes, you still get the luxury of seeing all of its growth. You'll wanna ensure comfort for both the plant and its new owner. So definitely keep in mind any pets, schedules, allergies or the aesthetic of someone's place when you're choosing a plant. Then the fun begins. Some of my favorite plants to give us gifts are the Pilea, Monstera and the ZZ plant. For the most part, I recommend any plant that's easy to care for and pretty low maintenance in terms of its needs. When someone has allergies, I always recommend succulents because dust doesn't collect on their foliage as quickly as other plants. If someone in your life is exploring outdoor gardening, perennials and herbs can make for great gifts, especially because some herbs can do really well inside during the winter months. For a lot of houseplants, winter is when they go dormant. So it's completely normal if you aren't seeing any growth at that time. When choosing the perfect plant, the best way to find one is to pick one with some new growth on it. So you've picked the perfect plant and now it's time to wrap it. If I'm giving the plant away in person, my go-to method is a paper gift bag. I always leave the plant out as long as possible before packing it in my paper bag. That way, I know that the plant is still getting oxygen and it's able to be as happy as possible before it goes to the new recipient. A way to style this is to let the foliage hang out of the sides of the bag but keep in mind, you don't want to do this on days when it's really, really cold out. And this mostly only works for smaller plants like these. So the first thing I did here was repot this Monstera into an ornamental pot. I prefer to keep the soil as is, like it is here, but some people prefer to add rocks to the top of the soil, especially if they're gifting cacti or succulents. (tranquil music) Next step, I need to gather all the supplies I'm going to need for packaging. I always like to have: ribbon, scissors and wrapping paper. So what I wanna do first is take a piece of ribbon, tie it around the pot into a bow, and it's all good to go. (tranquil music) Now place it in...
