Allowing the eyes to adopt a soft open gaze and when you feel ready, if it's comfortable for you, taking some nice, gentle, deep breaths. Hi, I'm Kessonga, and I'm a mindfulness meditation teacher here at Headspace. I was born in the Bronx, New York - Castle Hill to be exact. And even though it was a bit volatile, I really loved my neighborhood. It taught me character, it instilled in me a sense of resilience. As I grew up, I began to raise my own family and build a career. With that, came increased stress levels and even though I had some amount of resilience, it just wasn't enough. One day my wife gave me a book about mindfulness and meditation. It was "Full Catastrophe Living" by Jon Kabat-Zinn. That book changed everything! It was like there was a seed within me waiting to get water and that book was it. My meditation practice just blossomed. I started to notice shifts in my everyday attitudes. Certain things used to stress me out, but now it was like, wow, I was totally cool in the game right there. I just felt this increased sense of resilience. It was like a superpower. I was hooked. I took the course in mindfulness based stress reduction and realized it was something I would love to teach. I wanted to tell more people about this thing I discovered and so I eventually became a certified MBSR instructor. I'd been teaching for a while, both privately and as an instructor at a medical school, when Headspace got in touch. It was quite literally a dream come true! Hi, welcome to Headspace on stress. This is session one of part one. I love helping people unlock their potential and I want to help you discover this superpower for yourself....
