When I think of sleep, I just think, ugh, Sleep peacefulness, disconnect from the world. I don't have it is what it comes to mind when I hear the word sleep. I just don't do that at all. Wow. It's really hard for me to go to sleep and I barely get enough of it. Elusive. It's, it's the holy grail. It is something that I want, I want it every day, but it's something that I cannot obtain. When I hear the word sleep, the first thing that comes to mind is the word hope. I really think of it as kind of the glue that holds our lives together and in treating people with sleep problems, it's incredible what a big difference it can make to give someone their sleep back when they first arrive. I tell people that they're not alone. Sleep problems are incredibly common. In fact, about 30% of the population reports regular difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, so tens of millions of people kind of deal with this on a regular basis. When people come to me and want to improve their sleep, it's often because they don't feel great during the day. They're not getting the things done that they want to do, and they just don't feel like the best versions of them of themselves. If I don't sleep, I am sluggish at work. I, I am in a bad mood. I don't have the energy to, to be the mom or the friend or the wife. I don't Like feeling sluggish or groggy. Definitely my mood is affected by sleep and I find myself getting more tense faster to anger. When people get less sleep or poorer quality sleep than they usually do. They tend to experience more severe stressors the next day, and if they experience a stressor, they're more reactive to it, right? They just don't have the ability to cope with it that they would have had had they gotten the sleep they need. Motivation is key and behavior change and behavior change is hard, and so it's really helpful to identify kind of a key motivator, something you can hold onto a reason for doing this change. Kind of a goalpost that you can go towards when all the other barriers get in the way. First, we're gonna write some things down, so get a piece of paper ready and then address this first question, what benefit would getting better sleep have on your life? I wanna get better sleep just because I just wanna be full energy. I wanna give, give it my all every single day. And then we're gonna dig a little deeper we and ask why is the previous answer important to you? I think when I sleep well, I am in a good mood and it is noticeable and I feel like I can conquer the day. Then one more time, you'll ask yourself, why is the previous answer important to you? I want to improve my sleep because it would, you know, literally affect every aspect of my life. My body would do reparative functions while I was...
