(faint beeping) Prepare for (indistinct). (item screeching) (water splashing) It's a calm night at sea, and our research submarine, the Nocturnia, has just launched. (soft music) Captain Jean Claude Cado is at the helm, joined by Renard, the first mate, Dr. Romy, the researcher, Simone, the scientific illustrator, and AJ, the photographer. We're so pleased that you could join us too. (soft music) We've saved you a seat in the observation room, where you can relax and watch the whole underwater world go by, a kaleidoscope of kelp forests, coral reefs, and other marvelous marine ecosystems. (mystical music) As we get underway, let's pause for a brief wind down exercise. (mystical music) Tonight's exercise is a really simple breathing exercise. (mystical music) So when you're ready, let's begin. (mystical music) So first, get yourself comfortable. (mystical music) Now just bringing the attention to the breath, (mystical music) just noticing where you feel it (mystical music) in the nose, the throat, (mystical music) the chest, the diaphragm. (mystical music) You're nice and relaxed. (mystical music) We're going to be taking a deep breath in for four, holding it for four, and then breathing out for six. (mystical music) So are you ready? (mystical music) Let's begin. (mystical music) In for four, two, three four. Hold it for four, two, three, four, (mystical music) now breathing out for six, two, three, four, five, six. In for four, (mystical music) two, three, four. Holding for four, two, three, four. Out for six, (mystical music) two, three, four, five, six. In for four, two, three, four. Holding for four, two, three, four. (mystical music) Out for six, two, three, four, five, six. (mystical music) In for four, two, three, four. Holding for four, two, three, four. Out for six, (mystical music) two, three, four, five, six. Great. Now returning the breath to normal, (water calmly roaring) Moving in into colder waters, we find ourselves in the enchanted kelp forest. (water softly bubbling) A sea otter drifts above the canopy, cradling the cracked shell of a sea urchin in its furry forepaws as it floats past. (sonar dinging) (water calmly roaring) As we drift down, milky light shimmers through thick columns of copper-colored kelp, which rise all the way from the ocean floor to the sea's surface, enormous as trees. (water softly bubbling) The Nocturnia navigates through the chartreuse tendrils, which twist and rustle With the current. (water calmly bubbling) In the understory, the corridors of kelp seem to go on and on in the distance, blurry and dreamlike. (water calmly bubbling) A rockfish maneuvers its mottled body between the leafy blades. (water calmly bubbling) Shiny sea bass weave down the long hallways of light. Now a school of rainbow fish shimmers past, every bit as colorful as their name would suggest. (water calmly bubbling) Turquoise gills give way to yellow scales, which deepen to red's tails. (water calmly bubbling) Then in one fluid movement, the rainbow fish form a cone and shimmer upward and away through the thick fronds. (water calmly bubbling) On...
