(birds squawking) (water whooshing) Beyond Poipu Beach and deep within the Alaka'i Wilderness Preserve, a natural pool lies hidden in the rainforest. Cradled by towering 'Ohi'a trees, their branches draped in trailing veils of moss. All around, the forest's shades and shapes blend together as if nature were painting in watercolor. As we prepare for our visit, let's take a moment for a brief wind-down exercise. Tonight's exercise is a really simple breathing exercise. So when you're ready, let's begin. (water trickling) So first, get comfortable in your bed. Now just bringing the attention to the breath, just noticing where you feel it. In the nose, the throat, the chest, the diaphragm. You're nice and relaxed. We're going to be taking a deep breath in for four, holding it for four, and then breathing out for six. So are you ready? Let's begin. In for four, two, three, four. Hold it for four, two, three, four. Now breathing out for six, two, three, four, five, six. In for four, two, three, four. Holding for four, two, three, four. Out for six, two, three, four, five, six. In for four, two, three, four. Holding for four, two, three, four. Out for six, two, three, four, five, six. In for four, two, three, four. Holding for four, two, three, four. Out for six, two, three, four, five, six. Great. Now returning the breath to normal. (water whooshing) (birds chirping) On the southern shore of the island, a shaded walkway leads to the famed Allerton Garden, a living gallery of colors, textures and scents. Visitors find a cool place to rest beneath the vast canopies of giant fig trees. Their roots spill down from towering trunks in thick braided curtains, folding into the earth to like natural walls. Long ago, a Hawaiian queen planted trees that took root in this valley, and many of them still grow here today. Talipot palm trees rise high into the air, their immense fan-shaped leaves sheltering the garden. Once in a lifetime, they produce the largest flower cluster known in the plant kingdom, a spectacle hidden among their towering crowns. Beneath their leafy covering purple orchids, dangle like wind chimes without sound catching the humid air in subtle glimmers. The garden leads onward toward the sea where the coastline narrows to a shelf of lava rock known as Spouting Horn. Here, the ocean is drawn into a narrow vent in the stone, pooled in with each rolling swell before bursting upward in a tall shimmering plume. Saltwater scatters into the air, and when the sun strikes just right, the spray bends light into brief gleaming rainbows that hover above the rocks before dissolving back into the sea. (water whooshing) High in the uplands of Kauai, Koke'e State Park stretches out like a rainforest quilt. A light fog drapes itself between the trees, softening the edges of the forest. Along the trails, moss carpets the trunks of native koa trees that climb high into the canopy. The green...
