Camera has speed. (people chatting) How do we tolerate emotions that could potentially be overwhelming? I think the first place to start is to really consider that we as humans have a variety of different emotions. I felt helpless. I was scared. I was very, very scared. So I was just kind of worried about what others were gonna say or be angry or upset about. When feeling distress or overwhelming emotions, we could feel things both physically and emotionally. We might feel like we have a knot in our stomach or a tightness in our chest, or that it's difficult to breathe. I remember just opening my door and kind of becoming paralyzed And I could feel it in my chest and my heart. I felt like I was on the kind of the tips of my toes had a lot of energy that I couldn't hone in somewhere. When we have overwhelming thoughts and feelings and emotions, there are some simple things that we can do. Seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching that can help to ground you in your experience and pull you back from the overwhelm. Just putting on a sound bath and allowing the sound waves to literally bathe me. Walk barefoot in the grass. I feel like it kind of reconnects you to the earth. The sense that I usually always go for a sight because it's very easy for me to just look around and just describe what I see so that my mind gets off of the rumination that I'm thinking and starting to feel. An exercise that we talk about using here at Headspace when dealing with difficult and overwhelming emotions is the five senses....
