It's no secret that I'm passionate about mindfulness. It's how I live my life, being in the moment, appreciating the present moment. And also recognizing how enjoying and appreciating things in the present moment can also make you reminisce on positive things from the past, creating even more feelings of positivity and appreciation. So one of the highlights of my day is going to pick up my daughters from school. I'm usually writing and working all day. And so taking that break to go pick up my daughters is fully welcomed. My youngest is in middle school, and my oldest is in high school. Now, before you ask, the only reason I pick up my oldest is because of the pandemic. (chuckles) She's not so comfortable with riding the bus and being in those closed quarters, which I completely understand and actually welcome. I get to have another year of picking my girls up from school. (chuckles) So anyways, during pickup, I enjoy watching the high school students interacting. As I sit watching them, memories from my past of when I was in high school start to come to mind. And for the most part, they're very pleasant memories. It's like I'm automatically shifted into a positive state of mind. And yes, a lot has changed since my days in high school, but a lot has remained the same. I usually see the same characters from back in my day. The jocks hanging out together or heading to practice. I see the love bird couples being all schmoopy, displaying way too much PDA. (chuckles) But my favorite is seeing a group of friends just laughing and having a fun time together. Just the other day during pickup, I saw a group of friends laughing so hard. There was about four or five of them, and they were the only ones that were laughing this hard. You can tell it was like an inside joke or something. Just seeing them, just watching them was pure joy. Watching them brought up something else for me: It made me think of the people I've encountered in my life that were a complete joy to be around. Those people in your life that automatically make you smile or just feel good. For me, two people came to mind. During my bartending days, there was a guy. Let's call him P. So P was a server, and he always made a bunch of money in tips because of his positive attitude. If a shift was going by in just a blah and mundane way, guaranteed that when P came on for his shift, the energy was lifted. And it didn't hurt that P was hilarious. And not only laugh, but thinking back, I'm also deeply appreciative of having someone like P around that filled the working environment with such a positive...
