Wherever your attention has been today, on a screen, on someone else's life, let's just bring it back here for a few minutes. So finding a position where your body can really settle, whether that's sitting down, or laying down. And when you're ready, letting the eyes close. Taking a slow breath in through the nose, feeling your lungs expand, and letting it go out through the mouth. Once more, just like that. And now letting your breath return to its own pace. There's an old line you've probably heard before that comparison is a thief of joy. It's a bit of a cliche, but it also happens to be true. We're wired for this, and it's not because we're weak or vain. For most of human history, group status mattered, for survival, and we still carry that hardwiring today. It's almost impossible not to compare yourself in today's world when we're bombarded with other people's lives, with what they have or don't have, and how you measure up. Just noticing if that rings true for you. This can show up around career or money, or how the body looks. It can show up in who seems more confident, or who looks more successful, but comparison rarely considers the whole picture. You're seeing someone's highlight reel, what they choose to show on the outside versus how you feel on the inside. It's not an accurate or useful comparison. Let one comparison that's been sitting with you lately come to mind and just noticing what it's doing to you. Maybe it's making you feel behind, or perhaps it's making you feel unworthy. Is that judgment serving you? Let yourself notice that without judgment. See if you can reframe that thought. Maybe something like, "I'm not behind. I'm on my own timeline." Or, "I'm not in a competition with anyone else's life." The instinct to compare is natural, but you get to decide what it's measuring you against. Taking one more breath here, and when you're ready, slowly opening your eyes and carrying on with the rest of your day....
