It can be challenging to shift from one role to another. The array of emotions we hold, as we move from parent to senior caregiver, colleague to family member, child to parent, can feel like a lot to hold and manage. So this is an opportunity for us to pause as we shift, switch and transition between roles. Take a moment to feel where you are. So feeling your feet on the ground and noticing the rising and falling of your breath, the temperature of the room on your skin. And closing the eyes if you haven't already. Now, taking a deep breath here. And on the exhale, imagine just gently placing the role that you were just in aside, maybe putting it in a box and allowing that version of yourself to rest with each breath. And reminding yourself that it's okay to transition from one role to the next. Even if tasks still linger or work still needs to get done. And we'll just gently scan the body now, noticing any tension or resistance in transitioning. So starting at the head, feeling into the upper body, the shoulders, the arms and hands, allowing them to soften and relax. Trusting that what you've been holding can wait. And then noticing the chest, belly and back. And then scanning down into the lower body, noticing the hips, the legs, and feet, and just grounding and steadying yourself in this new moment. Once you arrive at the toes, take in one last deep breath here. And remember, you can care, but you don't need to carry it all at once. You can set things down and return when you're ready....
