Perfectionism has a way of sounding like it's trying to help us avoid making mistakes or being judged. This is one of the interesting ways the mind can try and protect us. It can be so convincing, making us believe that if you're hard enough on yourself or if you get everything right all of the time, you'll finally be worthy of love, care, or appreciation. It's a natural human response, yet not always helpful. So what we're gonna do here is something a little different. We're gonna practice meeting that voice or thinking with compassion and warmth rather than more criticism and fear. So taking a deep breath in through the nose and out through the mouth. Letting the eyes gently close if that feels comfortable for you. And just feeling the weight of the body pressing down, the contact with whatever surface is beneath you. And just arriving here in this moment. Now gently resting a hand on the heart or the belly, and just noticing what's actually present right now in this moment. When that spirit of perfectionism is present, what do you notice in the body? There might be some tightness, some heaviness, a sense of not quite being enough. Whatever it is, just acknowledging its presence, not fixing it or changing it, just seeing if we can create space to be with it. Acknowledging that this is a hard moment and you're not alone in this. Perfectionism or this fear of failure is a common human experience. Right now in this moment, there are countless others sitting with the same voice, the same tightness, the same longing to feel like they are enough. So keeping the hand where it is, continuing to breathe, and seeing if you can offer yourself something kind, and not forcing it, but offering the same kindness and care you'd offer to a friend who is also struggling in the same way. If it's hard to think of something, you can try offering yourself these phrases. May I be gentle with myself. May I learn to be kind to myself in these moments. May I learn to trust that I am enough just as I am. Just letting each of those land. Breathing naturally as you rest with each one. And when you're ready, taking a deep breath here, feeling the weight of the body again, and slowly and gently opening the eyes, noticing how you feel. So learning to meet that part of you that strives to be perfect with care and compassion rather than more criticism takes courage. And courage is a practice that we can build over time. So come back to this exercise as many times as you need. I'll see you around. Take care....
