Better mental health starts with Headspace

Hey, hey, Courtney here for your final day of the Seven Days to Better Money Moves. Congrats on making it this far. How are you feeling? Today we're talking about investing. I know, I know, we've all been fed those same images that go along with that word "investing": a bunch of bros in suits running around a big stock market, screaming their heads off. But guess what? They aren't the only ones with the power to invest. In fact, it's so important now more than ever that women and other marginalized groups own our power as investors. In the same way as our savings episode, Kathlyn is gonna tell you how you can put money away to collect interest over time. And even if you don't feel ready to get into investing or like you have enough money to contribute, she's got tips for what you can do in your own life to get to that place. Here's Kathlyn. Now, oftentimes when we think about, "I wanna be amazing with my money," we think about all those crazy shows that are talking about stock markets going up and down. It's almost just a circus in order to create this level of anxiety that you need to buy, buy or sell, sell. The reality is, for most investments, you wanna think for the long term. Now, what the heck does that all mean? It doesn't take rocket science to understand investing, and so I wanna start with the basics. Investing is a way that you can show you believe in a company. We do this already every day with the spending habits that we have. If I go get a coffee at Starbucks, that means I believe in this company. So instead of just buying my coffee from Starbucks, I can also choose to invest in it. This is me saying that I believe in the company and its future. Think about it like this. Say you have a brother who has a hotdog stand, and he makes the most incredible hot dogs you've ever tasted. Instead of just buying hotdog from him, you can say, "Hey, I wanna give you a little bit of money "to make this company better." That's what you're doing every time you're investing, you're saying, "I believe in you "and I wanna give you a little bit of money "to make it better." Now, in return, they are gonna give you profits. Over time, this profit can add up to a lot. That's why investing we wanna think about for the long term. For the most part, you don't wanna think about buying one day and then selling the next, then buying another day, and then selling the next. This is short-term investing. And while Hollywood makes it seem like this is the only way that you can invest, the reality is that, for most of us, we'll put our money into a company for the long run. What are the companies that you...
