So when we experience a change in independence, we might think we're a burden. I know these thoughts may feel real, but they don't reflect the whole picture. For right now, see if you can find a comfortable position, maybe sitting, maybe lying down, just settling into the body as it is. Wherever you are right now, just let yourself arrive here. Noticing the surface beneath you, the temperature of the air, just orienting to this moment exactly as it is. And when you're ready, take a slow breath in and a slow breath out. Noticing where in the body this thought of being a burden lives. Maybe it's a tightness in the chest or a heaviness in the shoulders. There's no need to change it, just noticing it's there. Maybe there's tension somewhere else too. The jaw, the hands, just letting the awareness pass through without needing to fix anything. Sometimes a change in independence can move the mind to an extreme, narrowing our perspective so much that it's hard to believe anything else. And when the mind narrows like this, the body can narrow too, maybe by holding the breath or bracing the muscles. So let's take another deep breath here, letting the exhale be a little longer than the inhale. And once more, breathing in and slowly letting go, allowing the body a little more room with each exhale. By challenging that thought or belief, we can invite a more balanced and grounded perspective. So let's give it a try by reflecting on what else could be true. Maybe it's this, letting others care for you now doesn't erase your independence. Take a moment to feel that ideal land in the body. Is there any softening, any space opening? Or maybe it's this, allowing others to care for you isn't an inconvenience. Let that settle too, noticing if the shoulders ease even slightly, or your worth isn't measured, but what you are or aren't able to do today. Staying with that one for a moment longer, letting it settle wherever it lands. Take one more slow breath and just noticing how it feels to invite a different perspective. Maybe it feels like relief. Maybe it feels unfamiliar. Both are welcome here. There's no need to choose the perspective that feels most true right now, only to know that more than one perspective can exist. Take one more final deep breath, feeling the weight of the body wherever you're resting. Noticing the support beneath you, the floor, the chair, the bed, and then whenever you're ready, slowly and gently opening your eyes....
