Better mental health starts with Headspace

What's up? Courtney here for day three of Better Money Moves. Today we're talking about how we spend money. It's human to feel that sense of guilt when you spend money. It could be your old money stories creeping in or a feeling of shame around not having enough money to spend. Either way, it's important as always to be kind to yourself. I'll let Kathlynn explain more. Every time you're spending your money, you're saying yes to that thing that's in front of you. Like that delicious latte that I know I love or just being able to take your friend out to dinner. Each time you're saying yes to that, it's amazing, but you also are saying no to that future bigger goal of yours. So as we get real, we need to start thinking about what things actually bring you joy and what things you're just kinda swiping your card at mindlessly. The more mindful that you can get about how you spend your money, the more in control you can actually be. I want you to think what things actually bring you tons of joy when you spend money. So that latte or taking your friends out to eat, I love those things. I love my morning latte. I love being able to give my friends either a drink or take them out to dinner or a lunch. Those things bring me so much joy. And that's okay. But if I think about what are the things I spend on maybe a little bit more mindlessly that don't bring any joy to my life, like you know, taking a Uber when I could just take a train, or magazine subscriptions that you never get around to reading. All of those things actually don't lead to any joy in my life. So think for yourself what things actually do bring you joy. By doing this, amazing thing that also happens is that you can begin to actually enjoy spending money on those things that you actually like. I felt so shameful every time I swiped that latte because conventional financial knowledge is, cut that latte a day and see how much money you could save. But if I know that latte's bringing me a lot of joy, then every time I do buy that latte, I can fully enjoy it. The more you can begin to understand this, the more easy it becomes to cut out those things that don't add anything to your life. In doing this, you can shift the way that you feel and all the emotions that come up. Now, as you look at what it is that brings you joy, start to savor those things. Start to really enjoy it. And for all those things that don't really add anything to your life, you can quickly start to let them go. We feel so many emotions about money because it touches everything that we do. Whether it's the home that we live...
