Sometimes when we're trying to focus on something in meditation, we might find the mind's a little too tight. It's almost like we're trying to force a state of concentration. And because of that, the mind tends to struggle. But when at the end of the session you're asked to just let your mind go free the mind is often like, "Meh, I'm okay. I'll just stay here, thanks." And this is interesting because it demonstrates just how little effort is required to find a place of stillness in the mind. We still need a sense of awareness. We still need a framework. But when we give the mind permission there's naturally space and a sense of ease. So if we can cultivate that, if we can bring that into every part of our session, over time we can truly find a place of rest....
