Noting - is it a feeling or thought???

This is meditation in action. Pure and simple. How do we take that new-found quality of calm, clear awareness from our meditation and apply it to everyday life? I've just started the practicing the noting technique my confusion is around when a thought triggers an emotion. For example, I received a vague text the other day that started me down a train of thought about what it could be about that produced anxiety. Is that a thought or an emotion? Does it even matter which one as long as I notice?
