This is quite a common question and comes with practice.

It's a bit like learning to drive a car and continually double checking everything to make sure it's OK. As we get more confident in driving the car, we tend to worry about those things a little less and just relax in the process of driving.

Besides, the body knows how to breathe and will take care of itself just fine if we allow it to be. If it really feels difficult though, you could try using sound as your object of focus instead.
