How would I want to end my workday? Could be anything, right? It could be actually shutting down your laptop. Sometimes we just close it and we open it up, all the tabs are still up, right? But maybe we actually go through the process of shutting it down. If you want to walk, I would say go for a walk, but if not, just stand outside. I don't care if it's a little chilly out or whatever, but again, it signifies I'm moving on to what's next in my day. (light music) Hey, I am Neca and welcome back to "Ask a Coach." So our next question comes from Nicole. Nicole says, "My partner and I both work from home, and since we don't have a commute or a change of environment to help our brains decompress, my partner has difficulty letting go of his workday energy, making him irritable, anxious, and distant in the evenings. Is there anything you could recommend to assist in the transition?" Well, first of all, who doesn't love working from home? Right, we all love it. I do. Super convenient. You don't have to deal with traffic or a commute, but what they don't tell you is this issue of trying to separate yourself from the day, and let me just tell you, I've had to have my own coaching when it came to this as well, so I totally understand. One of the first things I would say is to set a plan or develop a plan about one, how you want to end your workday, and then another plan for how you want to begin your day after work 'cause those are really two different things. How would I want to end my workday? Could be anything, right? It could be actually shutting down your laptop. Sometimes we just close it and we open it up, all of the tabs are still up, right? But maybe we actually go through the process of shutting it down. And then another thing you can do is just tidy your desk, right? Again, it helps you just say, I'm finished. We are done for the day. So that's part one. I think part two, though, is developing that plan to begin your time off of work, so that could be going outside, even if it's just for five minutes. If you want to walk, I would say go for a walk, but if not, just stand outside. I don't care if it's a little chilly out, whatever, but again, it signifies I'm moving on to what's next in my day. I would also say something like cooking. I'm not someone that likes to cook a lot, I'll be honest, but whenever I do, it really is helpful for me to truly separate myself, like I'm doing a different activity, so sometimes finding an activity that you can do.
