How ten days of meditation actually changed the way we train.
This week on the podcast, I wanted to take on a topic that scared me. I decided this week that it was time to talk about death, no matter how uncomfortable that made me. It seems like the more we’ve started to acknowledge ideas around mindfulness, presence, living day to day, the more we’ve had to acknowledge our mortality, and dying, and how death affects the way we live our lives.
I’ve noticed more articles on death and dying in the media, more discussion online and in the real world about dying, more effort in hospice care to respect the art of dying, so how is all of this changing the way we live our lives?
In this episode, I speak to our resident neuroscientist Dr. Claudia Aguirre on her recent work around this subject, and Betsy Trapasso, hostess of LA’s Death Cafe, on how we talk about death. I’ll also be speaking to individuals who have had to face either their own imminent death or the sudden loss of family members, to find out how it has impacted their lives.
Talking about death, confronting it, doesn’t deny any of the grieving process, it doesn’t assume there won’t be great sadness and pain and loss, but it does prepare us for it. It helps us to accept what will inevitably happen to all of us and it does force us to focus on what is important in life.
